Consultation or Planning fees are a charge for your time spent researching, planning, booking a trip for your client as well as your time spent supporting a client during their travel. Consultation fees are a good idea if you’re doing any kind of customized or non-commissionable bookings. Creating the fee structure is most advisor’s dilemma. Here are some options for your fee structure.
Flat Fee: This is the most popular consultation fee charge. You would have one standard/blanket fee upfront that covers the research and planning of the entire trip, regardless of how many people or days the trip is.
Hourly Fee: This is probably not the best option for a person that is new to selling travel, as trip planning may take you a lot longer to research.
Per Transaction Fee: These fees are popular among booking FIT’s, and will be a consultation charge that’s broken down by segment (ie. $50 for an air ticket, $25 for car rental, etc.). This helps you get “reimbursed” according to the complexity of a trip instead of an overall flat fee. This is all your personal preference.
Per Person: This is self-explanatory and great if you’re booking groups
